Ziggy Alberts ANNOUNCES his new album 'Laps Around The Sun'
"Folk-hewn but modern-facing, his work sits alongside those early Ben Howard cuts or even Jack Johnson, that kind of slick but still endearingly earnest musicality." - Clash UK
Ziggy Alberts is showing just how far you can push the boundaries as an independent artist. After selling out some of Australia's biggest theatres and playing a sold-out run on his first North America tour to dropping two charting singles Heaven and Love Me Now, this Aussie singer-songwriter is set to release his new album Laps Around the Sun on 9 November 2018.
At only 24 years old Ziggy has released four records, co-founded his own label Commonfolk Records, played sold-out tours across the world, and his music has amassed over 105 million streams, globally. Laps Around The Sun will be Ziggy's fifth record and will be the first full-length album since his 2014 Land & Sea release.
This album is filled with references to the planet – a subject close to Ziggy's heart as a surfer and environmental enthusiast – and imagined scenarios that act as vehicles for Ziggy's internal monologues and as subtle social commentary. As Ziggy explains:
"Laps Around the Sun is a story of coming out of one relationship and moving into the next. I wrote most of these songs in this space but applied internally; the process of moving through one relationship with yourself, into a much healthier one. I also wrote most of these songs about a girl, Koda, who doesn't even exist. There are other topics, including addressing some of the dangerous environmental challenges at hand that we need to continue to address."
Laps Around the Sun was solely written by Ziggy Alberts over a 4-year period starting in 2014 and was a year in the making. The first stages of recording were at The Chapel (Sunshine Coast, QLD), with extra touches at The Ranch (Northern Rivers, NSW), before finally being finished at Garrett Kato's home studio (Northern Rivers, NSW).
'Love Me Now and current title track 'Laps Around The Sun' were both released this year and added to triple j high rotation. The tracks have been featured in countless playlists worldwide, including New Music Friday and The A-List, Singled Out, Folk Pop, Front Left and featured as New Artist of The Week on Apple Music.
'Love Me Now' alone racked up an impressive 2 million streams in the 3 months after its release. 'Love Me Now' has also been featured on the Shazam charts for several weeks, as well as debuting at #11 on the ARIA singles charts, #10 on the iTunes digital charts and #1 on the AIR independent singles charts.
Ziggy Alberts has previously released two EPs Feels Like Home (2012) and Four Feet in the Forest (2016), and two albums, Made of Water (2013) and Land & Sea (2014). He has toured extensively, last year alone Ziggy played 11 countries on his 'Tell Me European Tour' which included sold out headline shows and festival appearances. Ziggy returned home to embark on his 'Heaven Tour' playing 2,000+ capacity theatres across Australia's capital cities including Thebarton Theatre, Astor Theatre (sold out), Palais Theatre (sold out), QPAC Concert Hall (sold out) and Enmore Theatre (sold out). This year Ziggy has played the main Mojo stage at Byron Bay's Bluesfest to 5,000+ fans, sold-out his first North America tour and a sold out one-off show at the Scala in London.
