ZIGGY ALBERTS has made a triumphant return with his seventh studio album TWIN FLAMES. A project born out of a rare period of time spent reconnecting and grounding himself at home after years of touring the world and achieving a multitude of new milestones, TWIN FLAMES has the energy of a spiritual return while in its vision, takes Ziggy further into new territory.
TWIN FLAMES has seen Ziggy connect with his fans in a new way, with his community choosing the singles including new track, ‘I Blame Myself’.
Recorded in the Northern Rivers region of NSW with longtime collaborator and producer GARRETT KATO, the project has seen Ziggy push himself further into new sonic territory and as a vocalist, engage with different parts of his range in new ways.
Shared alongside this album news is a brand new single from TWIN FLAMES in the arresting ‘I BLAME MYSELF’. A song that looks inward and asks the subject to look at their reflection in a mirror that isn’t always sympathetic, ‘I Blame Myself’ is layered with lyrical poignancy as Ziggy brings grit and vibrancy together through the music.
“Upon reflection, it’s full on, it’s really pointing the finger. I always want to make a concession for the fact that you need to see how you played into a situation. And I can see now, looking back, that I was a kid trying to do my best. But there are moments in your life where, as much as you want to take the majority of the blame, some relationships are just bloody toxic, and you’ve blamed yourself for things you didn’t need to.
Reflecting on how this song came about, that moment in my life was important because I was challenged to know who I was. Giving away too much, I was asking myself, “Who are you? What sets you apart?”, because everyone can have a guitar and a felt hat. I think that’s the time I really leaned into my environmentalism, into playing all-ages shows, into my independent career. All of that was truly who I was, and the challenge of that time pushed me down that path in an important way, to ask those questions and discover the answers.” ZIGGY ALBERTS
The release of ‘I Blame Myself’ follows on from Ziggy’s fan-chosen single ‘I Need My Woman’, a moment that will stand as a powerful reminder of the importance of community. By tapping in with his truly global fanbase via a unique global activation that saw 35+ independent cafes offer fans the opportunity to listen to unreleased music on vintage rotary phones, decide their favourite for the single and leave Ziggy messages of feedback, the artist and his audience became bound together in a new way.
